THE IDEA
We needed a fitting way to celebrate the greatest goal-scoring saga in NHL history. Our solution began with the number 8. It’s Ovechkin’s number but also the number all others are made from on a scoreboard display. What better way to keep track of the all-time NHL career goals record than by using the jersey number of the one to break it?

REAL TIME EXECUTION
Once the record-breaking goal was scored we quickly edited in the footage and real time announcer call. We shipped and aired the same night the record was broken.
DESIGN
The design drew inspiration from real-world hockey environments, crafting the numbers to echo the look and feel of authentic in-game scoreboards. Their reflections on a textured ice surface did more than ground them in a dynamic setting, it linked them directly to the arenas where Ovechkin made history. The area of the ice featured (top of the circle) is where Ovechkin scored 43.8% of his goals including the record breaker.
SOUND DESIGN
The audio was designed to tell this record breaking story by using the real announcer calls from Ovechkin’s historic goals paired with SFX from the real moments like crowd noise etc.
